Disclaimer & Best Practices

  • Never look directly at the sun without certified ISO 12312-2 solar eclipse glasses.
  • Never point your camera at the sun without a proper solar filter attached completely over the front of the lens during partial phases. It will instantly melt your sensor.
  • Remove your solar filter ONLY during totality (the minutes when the sun is completely covered).
  • This calculator provides a mathematical starting point. Atmospheric haze, cloud cover, and specific sensor dynamic range will alter your final optimal exposure. Practice on the full moon beforehand.
